Generative AI in the Classroom: five AI tools you can use today to transform teaching and learning
This two-hour course will give you everything you need to know to get started with generative AI in the classroom. Join us on 12 June 2024, 9.00-11.00 BST (UTC+1).
Description
This two hour course, delivered by Darren Coxon, will give you everything you need to know to get started with generative AI in the classroom. It will cover how to get started using AI in your own planning and teaching, how to effectively introduce it to your students (for a variety of age groups), and how to give students more ownership of their learning through having their own suite of AI tools to draw on.
It will focus on five core apps that have free versions. Darren Coxon will show you what both the free and paid versions of the apps are capable of, so you can make an informed decision as to whether to invest budget into them for the new school year.
The apps are:
- ChatGPT
- The Open AI Playground
- Midjourney
- Zapier: Zapbots and Interfaces
- Gamma
The session will cover:
- How to use ChatGPT to plan a scheme of work, lesson plans, differentiated resources and assessment materials - all in a few minutes. This will include the basics of prompting for anyone who is still unsure as to the best way to prompt AI.
- How to use the free OpenAI GPT Playground to create individualised teaching assistants for every student
- How to create bespoke, student-friendly chatbots using Zapbots and Interfaces
- How to use Midjourney to create resources for presentations, to generate creativity and to support literacy teaching
- How to create AI-embedded ‘ebooks’ using Gamma
This will be a whistlestop tour through these five core applications, but by the end you will be able to see how you can use AI in some innovative ways to save time, make learning more interesting, support all ability levels, and create fun and varied learning resources.
