Safer Recruitment for International Schools
Delivered by The Safeguarding Alliance, this online course has been designed for those who want to learn how to recruit safely and mitigate risk in an international school context. This course will take place on 15 October 2024 from 8.30-12.30 BST (UTC+1) and 6 February 2025 from 8.30-12.30 GMT (UTC).
Description
Effective recruitment is essential in safeguarding children and young people and risk mitigation. Finding staff and volunteers with the necessary skills, qualifications and attributes to enable a setting to effectively deliver objectives in line with aims and values is key and must be conducted in a safe way.
For international schools there is the requirement of an additional risk mitigation strategy to ensure the added challenges of being able to safely recruit and undertake the required due diligence checks are in place and effective through the recruitment of a transnational staffing pool.
Using case study experiences the course will journey through the complete employment process and ensure that safeguarding is embedded and understood within an international context.
Taught by experienced professionals from a social service, Legal and policing background, this course will provide delegates with a:
- Clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of a safer recruitment panel;
- Understanding of how to recruit safely in an international setting;
- An ability to identify barriers to safer recruitment and implement a robust risk mitigation strategy;
- Understanding of how policy must remain contextual to operational practice;
- A clear understanding of knowledge and obligations required in safer recruitment.
Delegates will learn how to:
- Ensure safer recruitment remains contextual within an international setting;
- Ensure staff, volunteers and governors are appropriately vetted and are suitable for the role when working with children and young people;
- Understand the importance of a safer recruitment job advertisement;
- Create a safer recruitment application pack;
- Understand the importance of maintaining an up to date job description;
- Understand the importance of safer recruitment checklists at interview panels;
- Review and embed safer recruitment practice and process;
- Understand how to properly conduct all pre and post-interview checks;
- Ensure that all safer recruitment policies and policy statements are up-to-date and relevant and in line with national and international requirements;
- Ensure a person on the recruitment panel has undertaken safer recruitment training and is confident to challenge;
- Identify and understand the importance of having a robust single central record system;
- Understand the role of the Single Central Record within an international context;
- Understand the importance of appropriate candidate background checks;
- Identify appropriate international background checks;
- Understand the important of safer recruitment risk assessments;
- Learn how to respond to inappropriate behaviour and allegations of abuse.
