LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Education
This short course delivered by University of Sunderland is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to create more inclusive and welcoming learning environments for LGBTQ+ staff and students. The course will cover a range of topics related to LGBTQ+ identities and experiences, including terminology, history, and current issues facing the LGBTQ+ community globally. The sessions will be delivered on 11 and 18 March 2024, from 9:00am GMT (UTC).
Description
Participants will learn how to create and implement inclusive policies and practices in their classrooms and schools, including strategies for supporting LGBTQ+ students and addressing instances of discrimination and bias. Participants will also explore the role of intersectionality in understanding and addressing the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals who are also members of other often marginalised groups, such as people of colour, people with special educational needs, and migrants/refugees.
Throughout the course, participants will engage in interactive discussions and activities, including case studies and simulations, to help them apply their learning to real-world situations. They will also have the opportunity toshare examples of good practice with their peers and demonstrate how they are applying research and theory into their practice as their knowledge and skills develop.
By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of the challenges facing LGBTQ+ people in education and will be equipped with practical strategies to improve their practice and ensure everyone has equitable access to education, regardless of identity.
