Safeguarding for Governors and Trustees in International Schools
Delivered by The Safeguarding Alliance, this interactive, online course will explore the safeguarding role and responsibility of the Governor or Trustee in an international school setting. This course will take place on 1 October 2024 from 8.30-12.30 BST (UTC+1) and 5 March from 8.30-12.30 GMT (UTC).
Description
A course for school Governors and Trustees, exploring the safeguarding role and responsibility of the Governor or Trustee in an international school setting. This course offers the opportunity for delegates to consolidate knowledge and understanding of safeguarding of children and young people. The course examines current safeguarding legislation and explores how to recognise and respond to disclosures, critical incidents, including illness, injury, security events and emergency situations. The course focuses on identifying, responding, reporting and referring concerns that a child or young person has been abused, harmed or bullied.
Taught by experienced professionals from a social service, education or policing background you will learn to:
- Identify the relevant legislation within your geographical context and guidance that safeguards children and young people
- Identify who within the Governing Body or Trustee board holds safeguarding responsibility
- Identify the different roles and responsibilities in safeguarding accountability
- Identify what is meant by safeguarding and child abuse
- Name the categories of child abuse and neglect
- Identify the barriers to children and adults reporting concerns
- If applicable, understand how safeguarding is implemented in an international context
- Recognise possible child abuse
- Recognise the signs and indicators of possible abuse
- Record what you’ve seen or heard
- Respond appropriately
- Report your concerns about a child
